About
Alvin is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Manchester. He is a recipient of the 2024-2025 Early Career Research Fellowship under the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF), delivered by the British Council, for the project “Enhancing Environmental Resilience through AI-driven Analysis of Unstructured Data.”
His work centres on natural language processing (NLP), with a focus on developing and fine-tuning large language models to extract and structure complex scientific information. His research lies at the intersection of AI and food systems, with an emphasis on understanding how agricultural practices and resource inputs influence environmental processes within food production systems. His work involves developing AI methods grounded in scientific reasoning to generate structured empirical evidence that supports model calibration, evaluation, and large-scale validation. His research contributes to advancing data-driven approaches for analysing and interpreting complex environmental dynamics in food systems.
